Unfortunately, Norwegian’s Harvest Caye, Carnival’s Half Moon Cay, and Princess Cays don’t allow using your drink package in port. Drink purchases are charged to your onboard spending account instead. Costa Cruises offers two drink packages, My Drinks, and My Drinks Plus. The bar tab functions as a pre-paid onboard credit, which guests can use to purchase drinks on the ship or at the cruise line’s private island Beach Club at Bimini.

The Zero Proof package also includes drinks such as Red Bull, Vitamin Water, fresh juices and smoothies at The Spa Cafe and premium waters like San Pellegrino or Evian. The only cruise lines we know to have any limits on the number of drinks you can order are Carnival and Princess (which is owned by Carnival Corporation). They have a 15-drink limit on alcoholic beverages during the 24-hour period that runs from 6 a.m. You would think that the cost of the beverage packages would be straightforward.

Norwegian Cruise Line offers a wider range of drink packages than some of its competitors. All of Norwegian’s drink packages also include a 20% gratuity. If you want lots of options, a drinks package may be right for you and could help you save money on a cruise. You might also see some savings if you select a drink package before you set sail. For many people, a cruise vacation is a time to unwind completely, disconnect from the worries back on land, and indulge in the finer things in life.

You also can’t have double measures, order room service or use the mini bar. Canned and bottled soft drinks, juices and smoothies are also excluded. So if you know you want the package, we suggest opting for one of Princess’ all-inclusive options as it’s less expensive. And when you consider what’s included in the deal, it makes the math work strongly in favor of the drink package if you plan to drink even a moderate amount.
